Cogswell Award for Inspirational Instruction

Purpose: The Cogswell Award for Inspirational Instruction will provide an annual award to an instructor, faculty (tenured or tenure-track), lecturer, or teaching assistant who is recognized for their teaching abilities and inspirational qualities in the classroom. Previous winners have included Pamela Harvey, a teaching professor of distinction in the Department of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology, and June Gruber, an associate professor in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience.

Award: $4,000 one-time payout to the winner.

Nomination Process: The College of Arts and Sciences will put out a call seeking nominations.  Each nomination packet should include a nomination letter from the chair or director of the relevant unit; letters from two students; and qualitative and quantitative FCQs from the two most recent semesters in which the nominee has taught classes, including comments. For the 2023-2024 award cycle, please send your nominations to Dana Takeuchi (Dana.Takeuchi@colorado.edu) in the A&S Budget Office by January 19, 2024. 

Selection Process: A faculty committee with representatives from all three A&S divisions will review nominations and select a winner.
