Daniel Schwartz of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering has become the new interim director of the Environmental Engineering Program, effective Jan. 1. Dan is a skilled administrator, having previously served as ChBE chair. As part of the college鈥檚 ongoing visioning process, he will lead efforts to further align environmental engineering with college and campus goals in climate and sustainability and help position the program for the next permanent faculty director.听
As a faculty member from outside EVEN, he will provide a unique perspective as we continue to grow environmental engineering, which is already a Top 10-ranked program at both the undergraduate and graduate level among public universities. Dan will not be a candidate for director after his interim appointment expires. We anticipate conducting a college-wide or national search to fill the director position over the next 18 months.
Joseph Ryan will be taking on a one-year role as environmental engineering research director for the college. In this position, he will work to expand interdisciplinary research opportunities, build collaborations across campus, and form interdisciplinary teams to pursue center-scale research initiatives.听Joe will be making an announcement regarding research seed grant opportunities in the next few weeks.
