8-Week Session 2
Studio 2: Fundamentals of Landscape Architecture | Fall 2020
Instructors:ÌýSiobhan Brooks, Emily Greenwood, Sara Tabatabaie, Christy Rogers, Robin Nocross
The Euclid Parking lot and University Club lawn is the first or last space experienced by many campus visitors and community members. This studio asked that we imagine a future for this site as a campus gateway without surface parking. The site’s prominence and position at a primary entrance provides ample justification for its redevelopment as a welcoming campus plaza, but many other contextual factors strengthen the case for reframing this site. The site’s Flatiron views, multi-modal transportation options, and potential synergy with the IMIG, the University Club, CASE, and ENVD would support its success as a small, vibrant urban park for campus users and the community.

Studio 2: Fundamentals of Landscape Architecture | Fall 2020
Instructors: Sara Tabatabaie, Christy Rogers, Robin Nocross
What are the fundamental multi-dimensional components of landscape architecture, and how do we use them to create functional, dynamic and inspiring places?Ìý
Fundamentals of Landscape ArchitectureÌýis an intensive eight-week studio intended to introduce first-semester sophomore-level students to landscape architecture. This studio explores ways in which works of landscape architecture are alive and in motion. Nature is our primary design tool and our palette is composed of living systems in constant flux. Students workedÌýwith (rather than against) these natural systems to create places that are beautiful, dynamicÌýand resilient. This course positions landscape architecture as a central environmental design discipline uniquely capable of addressing today's pressing urban ecological and social problems. In the context of a highly visible urban site on the °ÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û2023¿ª½±¼Ç¼Ìýcampus, studentsÌýexplored the fundamental concepts and techniques of landscape architecture, including landform manipulation, planting design, stormwater management, programmingÌýand the ways in which these layers of a landscape coalesce to form places that live, moveÌýand evolve.Ìý
