Interacting with the Calendar

Events details

The University Events Calendar is a community calendar and as such, it provides means of interacting with other members of the °ÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û2023¿ª½±¼Ç¼ community through social interactions.

Event Details Page

The events page not only has the the event details but several ways you may interact with the event and hosting group.

"I'm Interested" button

We find that seeing interest in an event encourages more attendance. When you click I'm Interested on an event, this will:

  • Add the event to your personal plans in the Calendar platform.
    • You will be notofied if the event details change or the event is canceled.
  • Add you to the People Interested section of the event.
    • Event admins may send the people interested updates if needed.
  • Includes you in the I'm Interested metrics on the event.
    • These metrics are only available to admins in the Admin Dashboard.

Additionally, when marking yourself as interested in an event, it triggers a notification the day before the event as a reminder.

Please note that the I'm Interested functionality does not take the place of official ticketing or registrationas there is no cap on how many people can select I'm Interested. Purchases cannot be made with this function, and if an event includes a ticket URL for purchasing or registering, you will be prompted to continue to the external ticketing service when you select the I'm Interested button.

Following

As you explore the calendar, you may notice a Follow option on Place Pages and Group Pages. When you follow a landing page, it adds all of the upcoming events on that page to your personal plans in the Calendar platform. This effectively marks you as I'm Interested in those events giving you the reminder notifications a day before each one will take place.

Social Sharing

If you find an event that you like, and would like to share it with your network, you have the option to share it on social media. On the event details page, you'll see the share icons on the left side of the browser, your options are Facebook and Twitter but if you click the red plus sign you will find more options such as LinkedIn and Messanger. Upon clicking on your social media platform of choice, you will be redirected to the coordinating website to share the event.

Twitter Hashtag

If an event includes a hashtag, you may click on the hashtag and it will take you to the Twitter platform, where you can see posts using this hashtag.

Subscribe to Events

If you would like your events to appear in a personal calendar outside of your University calendar dashboard, you have exporting options under Subscribe. The three formats that can be exported from calendar are:

  • Google calendar
  • ICS or iCal calendars
  • Outlook calendars

Subscribe to Search Results

When you search for events, any page that includes the Filter Results drawer will also include the Subscribe to Displayed Results section. These pages include:

Clicking Show more events from any landing page (i.e. Places or Groups)

Your options for subscription are:

  • Google
  • iCal
  • Outlook
  • RSS

Export Details

No matter which feed you subscribe to, it will cover the next year of data OR the first 1,000 events. From there, Localist will update the feeds very soon after events are changed or new ones are created, but the schedule for these being reflected on your personal calendar is determined entirely by your outside calendar client.

When exporting to Google or Outlook calendar, there are some limitations on their end to keep in mind:

  • Outlook doesn't allow subscribing to a feed with multiple events. Events will be added, but they will not be connected. This means they won't update to reflect future changes. That said, if you copy the link to the ICS file and manually subscribe to it in Outlook, the events should be added and updated accordingly.

  • If you are exporting a broad list of events or a recurring event with multiple instances, these will also trigger a new calendar in both Outlook and Google.

Create Email Digests

Get a personalized list of events in your inbox every week! Digests can be customized to match your preferences for upcoming events. You choose the day of the week, and when that day comes, your inbox will have upcoming events that you know you'll be interested in. Digests are a great way to stay informed and engaged in your community without having to proactively visit this site.
