Dear Infrastructure and Resilience team,
I hope you saw Pat鈥檚 announcement and my follow-up email about our office鈥檚 name change a few weeks ago. We have entered a new era as Infrastructure and Resilience (I&R). The chancellor鈥檚 announcement of a new vice chancellor for sustainability meant that the sustainability part of our title needed to change to avoid confusion between the two offices.
The decision on a new name is not something that our leadership team took lightly. We went through an extensive process of discussing all our options and chose Infrastructure and Resilience. 鈥淚nfrastructure鈥 describes what we build, maintain, clean, keep safe, heat, etc. 鈥淩esilience鈥 means the ability to bounce back quickly from disruption with an improved status.
Although 鈥渟ustainability鈥 is no longer in our title, it will continue to inform the work we do. In fact, the chancellor also announced a new director of sustainable operations position that will work within I&R. This role will support our efforts to integrate sustainability into our programs alongside the new vice chancellor for sustainability.
