I wrote a 784-page book called The Nature of the Mechanical Bond: From Molecules to Machines, which was published only months before my co-author, J. Fraser Stoddart, received the 2016 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. My research program focuses on the skeletal mechanical environment and its regulation of cancer. My goal is to identify therapeutic targets for treating and preventing bone metastases as well as cancer-associated reductions in bone strength. My approach uses novel in vivo and in vitro mechanical loading model systems to correlate cellular function with cancer pathogenesis, tissue-level changes in tumor burden, and skeletal tissue strength.

I'm designing automated approaches to fabricating robots that require no听human intervention, & inventing听automated design approaches that convert high-level behavior specifications (like, "build a robot that can run fast") into robot designs that can be fabricated automatically.

Since 2012, I have been a Research Assistant in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering. I am interested in data-driven modeling of complex live and engineered systems, analysis and control of networked dynamical systems, and autonomous collective systems and robotics.

Prior to joining ME, I owned Coalesce Design and Fabrication in Boulder. I spent 12 years building the company from the ground-up. Our designs are regularly featured in national magazines as we are one of the top design and build firms in the Front Range. Before starting the company, I spent a decade as an environmental consultant in the oil and gas industry, focusing on remediation of spills and long term remediation systems.

Before joining CU I worked in the Rapid Evaluation Team at听X (previously known as Google[X]), where听I focused on initiating new projects听in a wide range to fields听to build a pipeline听of transformative technologies for X. 听Prior to this听I spent 8 years at the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC)听where I managed the Novel Electronics Group, and studied printed, flexible and transient electronic systems.
