Aous Mansouri was born in a bilingual, multi-cultural household. Because he spoke English within the nuclear family-unit and Arabic outside that unit (with frequent exposure to French via extended family), language practice and its association with identity-positioning were present and conscious at an early age. This familiar history and linguistic usage drew Aous to the CLASP program once he joined the Linguistics Department in order to further explore the theories and scholarship behind the interaction of language and identity.
