Candace Evans and Lori Peek, along with Jerika Heinze (founder of The Fieldwork Initiative) and Rachel Adams (of the Natural Hazards Center), recently completed work and released a new NSF-funded CONVERGE Training Module. This online course focuses on Understanding and Ending Gender-Based Violence in Fieldwork.

Lori Peek and the Natural Hazards Center received a $30,000 gift from an anonymous donor to establish a new Disability and Disasters Award for the hazards and disaster research and practice community. This award will bring those who care for, study, or advocate on behalf of those with disabilities to the annual Natural Hazards Workshop in Boulder. Sociology graduate students Heather Champeau and Candace Evans will serve as committee co-chairs, and Melissa Villarreal will serve as a committee member. Lori Peek received $419,940 in supplemental funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to her current NSF-funded CONVERGE award to develop and launch two additional online training modules – the first focused on Ethical Considerations for Hazards and Disaster Researchers and the second focused on Collecting and Sharing Perishable Data. Among other activities, this funding will support the work of graduate research assistant and sociology doctoral student, Candace Evans, who is co-leading the development of both modules.
