Dear Strategic Resources and Support team,
Move-in week and a new academic year come with the added excitement of new Chancellor Justin Schwartz bringing his own energy, passion and ideas to help shape how we deliver on our university mission. Justin is going to be meeting with people across the campus, plans to visit the SRS units, and wants to get to know you. If you see him, please say hi and let him know what you do. I am proud of the work that we do in SRS and hope to share it with him.
While we鈥檙e only seven weeks into his tenure, there are a few notes and observations I鈥檝e made as we look to the year ahead:
- Change in tactics, not the mission: Whenever a new leader comes to an organization, you can expect there to be some changes. In the weeks and months ahead, Justin will learn about how we do our work, and we will be adapting the future to align with his vision. The first year in particular may feel like change is occurring fast as new ideas take shape and are put into action. What will not change is the core reason behind our work: We are all here to enhance student success and advance knowledge. The importance of what each of you does every day remains, even if projects or focus areas shift.
- Priorities: Justin has made clear that sustainability (in all aspects of research, education, outreach and operations), continuing to enhance diversity, equity and inclusion on our campus, strengthening our research enterprise, and continuing to support interdisciplinary research and education are among the priorities that are top of mind for him. This is good news, as these are all areas of focus we鈥檝e been prioritizing in recent years, and his fresh look at each area will serve us well as we seek to make new strides.
- More to come: Justin continues to guide executive leaders on campus through goal-setting work that will help bring his vision into focus, and we will continue to share more with you in the coming weeks and months as this important work takes shape.听
I am continually grateful for your dedication to the university, as well as your adaptability and innovative spirit as we navigate the coming year together.听
