The Student of Concern Team (SOCT) is a proactive and collaborative group that reviews elevated cases of concerning student behavior that pose a serious safety issue to the student or others on campus. The SOCT works towards a safer campus community and supports students who are in distress by providing threat assessment, intervention and crisis prevention.Ìý
About the SOCTÌý
The SOCT is a multi-disciplinary campus committee co-chaired by the Dean of Students and Student Support & Case Management (SSCM) that aims to:Ìý
SSCM, which reports to the Dean of Students Office, is the first place that students of concern are referred. SSCM case managers review referrals using a risk rubric, a research-based tool that is used in assessing the risk associated with each case. Cases that meet certain levels of risk and/or threat are then reviewed by the SOCT. After reviewing the case and risk assessment, the SOCT makes recommendations on next steps and appropriate case plans.Ìý
The SOCT helps maintain safety and advocates for students in distress through various supportive actions, including meeting with the students and connecting them to support resources that can help them through challenging situations. Depending on the case, the SOCT may also recommend police response or refer the student to Student Conduct & Conflict Resolution or the Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance.Ìý
