The 85th Annual Alumni Association Awards Ceremony, a long-standing tradition to celebrate the outstanding service and professional achievements of CU-Boulder鈥檚 most outstanding alumni, faculty, staff and students, is Thursday, Oct. 23, at 5:45 p.m. at the Hotel Boulderado. Seating is limited and attendees are asked to register at听.
As part of the alumni lecture series, Richelle Munkhoff, an assistant professor of English at CU-Boulder, will excavate the deeply literary underpinnings of the hit TV show Breaking Bad, which won five Emmys this year. The lecture takes place from 4 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24, at the University Memorial Center, room 235. Other lectures include 鈥淎 Journey Through CU鈥檚 Musical History,鈥� 鈥淧rint the Legend: The Real Life of Boulder Photographer 鈥楻ocky Mountain Joe鈥� Sturtevant鈥� and 鈥淭wo Planks and a Prayer: A Brief Overview of Colorado鈥檚 Ski History.鈥� For full details and to register, go to . On Friday, Oct. 24, the entire Boulder community is invited for the traditional Pearl Street Stampede procession along the Pearl Street Mall, which includes the Golden Buffalo Marching Band and representatives from the CU football team. The free event begins in front of the Boulder County Courthouse at 7 p.m. and ends with a pep rally at 11th and Pearl.
Following a theme of 鈥淢oments, Milestones and Miracles,鈥� the student-organized Homecoming parade begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, on University Hill with Rashaan Salaam serving as the grand marshal. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Salaam winning the Heisman Trophy, becoming the first and only CU Buff to win the prestigious award honoring the year鈥檚 most outstanding college football player. A family-friendly block party with free food, games, music and more along College Avenue between 13th and 12th streets will immediately follow the parade.
The Alumni Association鈥檚 pregame event, Ralphie鈥檚 Corral, starts at 9 a.m. on Benson Field across from Folsom Field and will include performances from the CU marching band and spirit team, a family fun zone, concession and merchandise sales and an extended appearance from Ralphie the buffalo.
This year鈥檚 CU football matchup features the Colorado Buffaloes taking on the UCLA Bruins with a noon kickoff at Folsom Field. Game day information can be found at听.
Several reunions will occur during the festivities, including the classes of 1954 and the Golden Anniversary Club (1964 and earlier). Graduates from the last five years can attend the First Fives reunion and begin building connections that will last a lifetime. Other affinity reunions include the Black Alumni Association, the Latino Alumni Association, the American Indian Alumni Association, Presidents Leadership Council and the CU Marching Band.听
