On Tuesday, May 3, long-serving members of the Boulder campus staff and their guests joined Chancellor Philip DiStefano and members of Staff Council in the Glenn Miller Ballroom to be honored for their service to campus.

The event, hosted annually by Staff Council since 1977, honors staff members who have served for 20, 25, 30 and 35, 40 and 45 years. All staff with 20 or more years of service are invited to attend the event, and honorees are invited to bring a guest.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a fun and meaningful way of recognizing staff,鈥 says Megan Schosker, chair of the Staff Council Awards & Staff Recognition Committee. 鈥淪ometimes, people don鈥檛 get recognized in their own departments unless they鈥檙e leaving the university or retiring. This event provides an opportunity for some of the university鈥檚 most committed employees to meet the chancellor and enjoy some time meeting other people from across campus.鈥

Shosker explains that each year, in addition to this event, the Staff Council Awards and Staff Recognition Committee sends out recognition certificates to staff who have worked at the university for five, 10 and 15 cumulative years of service. Staff who are honored at the ceremony for 20 or more years of service are also presented with a University of Colorado pin, commemorating their years of service.

In his remarks, Chancellor DiStefano observed that staff play a crucial role in supporting the success of our students.

鈥淥ver the years since I鈥檝e served as chancellor, many of our graduates have told me that if it wasn鈥檛 for their jobs on campus, if it wasn鈥檛 for caring staff who supervised them, they would not have completed their degree,鈥 said DiStefano. 鈥淚 want to thank you for your service to our university and our students.鈥
