The law, which took effect Jan. 1, 2021, introduced rules听 to address the gender pay gap, increase transparency and protect employees from pay discrimination. It prohibits gender and gender-plus-protected-class-based pay discrimination鈥攚hich includes race/ethnicity differences鈥攆or substantially similar work in terms of skill, effort and responsibility, regardless of job title. The law does not address any other salary inequities, such as those caused by market factors or by salary compression.听
