On March 21, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy recognized the Exchange for Local Observations and Knowledge of the Arctic (ELOKA)听at 澳门开奖结果2023开奖记录 as a 鈥渃hampion of open science.鈥� ELOKA was one of five 鈥溾�� winners selected for their work to promote open science to tackle a unique problem; ELOKA was selected in the 鈥溾�� category for developing tools and building relationships to share Indigenous knowledge while also respecting Indigenous data sovereignty.听
ELOKA principle investigator Noor Johnson acknowledged the efforts of ELOKA鈥檚 leadership, staff听and partners over the years, stating: 鈥淭he ELOKA collaborative is dedicated to applying open science principles that foster shared capacity and active involvement in data management so that Arctic communities have information they need to advance their goals and priorities. We are very grateful for this recognition from the White House, which highlights the valuable work of our community partners in documenting and sharing knowledge for both present and future generations.鈥�
As a result of the White House recognition, ELOKA was invited to present virtually to the National Science Foundation鈥檚 Open Science Hour on May 21, and to join a panel on 鈥淥pen Science for Science and Society鈥� at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative Open Science 2024 meeting in Boston听on June 14.
