From accounting basics to advanced financial training, the Campus Controller's Office offers a wide range of general and customized courses to fit your needs.

 

CU-Data Financial Statements

In this course, you will learn how to access the Cognos Reporting System, how to read statements and where to locate pertinent information on those statements. This m-Fin financial statements training is required prior to gaining access to the PeopleSoft Finance system. PeopleSoft Finance system training is also required.

Learning Objectives

In this course, you will learn how to review the following Cognos reporting system m-Fin statements: Speedtype summary; Operating summary; Financial detail reports; Other information may be covered as time permits. You are encouraged to bring your own speedtypes and questions to class.

CU-Data statement reading training: A new approach

To provide a more flexible learning experience, we're developing a comprehensive resource library that will combine online materials with targeted live workshops (details coming soon!). In the meantime, live training sessions are on hold.

However, if you'd like to refresh your knowledge on CU Data Statements, we have past recorded sessions available. Simply reach out to controller.training@colorado.edu for access.

PeopleSoft Finance System

This training is designed to provide basic information for accessing and using the University of Colorado's PeopleSoft Finance system.

Learning Objectives

Courses include: Finance system navigation; ChartFields; Reporting; Journal entries. Current Finance system users who would like a refresher course are always welcome and encouraged to attend.


Accounting 101

The Accounting 101 series is designed for departmental administrators and staff who have accounting or financial responsibilities but limited accounting or bookkeeping training. Plan to attend all four (4) sessions to receive the full benefit of the cumulative content and credit for completing the course. Are you interested in this training? Let us know!

Learning Objectives

This class covers the following and how they fit into the university environment:

  • Assets, liabilities, owner鈥檚 equity, revenue and expenses
  • Accrual vs. cash basis of accounting
  • Debits and credits
  • The accounting equation
  • Balance sheet and income statement

Accounting 201

This course will specifically focus on how accounting is managed at 澳门开奖结果2023开奖记录. In addition, GAAP accounting concepts will be reviewed. Are you interested in this training? Let us know!

Learning Objectives

In this course, our area accountants will:

  • Cover revenues and expenses, liabilities, and assets
  • Provide an overview regarding 澳门开奖结果2023开奖记录 financial oversight
  • Review CU financial statements. 
  • Address how the fund types are differentiated
  • Discuss what revenues and expenses can be recorded in our respective funds 

This class will also cover 澳门开奖结果2023开奖记录-specific policies, such as sensitive expenses, gift cards, donations, purchase of alcohol and other topics.  

There are no prerequisites for the class, and while the content will be applicable to anyone involved with 澳门开奖结果2023开奖记录 finance, this class will not cover basic accounting concepts. For those more interested in accounting basics, Accounting 101, offered in the fall, may be more beneficial.
